Structure The valve consists of the main valve, pilot valve, needle valve, ball valve, and pressure gauge. These components are connected via piping, forming what is known as the pipe control system. Working Principle and Purpose As a pressure relief valve, the main valve is installed on the drain bypass and connected in parallel with the main line. When the upstream pressure exceeds the pilot valve’s set value (typically 20 bar), the main valve quickly opens to release pressure until the upstream pressure drops below the set point. This prevents water hammer and ensures pipeline safety. It is widely used in fire hydrant systems, sprinkler systems, and pump outlets where pressure fluctuations can occur. As a pressure sustaining valve, the main valve is installed in series with the main line. If the upstream pressure falls below the pilot valve’s set value, the main valve closes; otherwise, it opens to maintain the required pressure downstream. This function is essential in fire systems, where maintaining a minimum pressure level is crucial for effective operation. 6. Installation and Adjustment 1. The optimal installation position for the main valve is horizontal with the pump cover facing upward. Other orientations are acceptable as long as the pipeline is free of debris before installation. Ensure the flow direction arrow on the valve body is correctly aligned. After installation, avoid any external stress on the valve or internal components. 2. Before the main valve, install a gate valve and a strainer. A second gate valve should also be placed after the main valve for maintenance purposes. 3. Ensure the pipeline is clean, the needle valve (No. 23) is open, the ball valve (No. 21) is closed, and all balance ball valves are fully open. To adjust the pressure, loosen the lock nut under the pilot valve wheel, then turn the wheel clockwise to increase pressure or counterclockwise to decrease it. Lock the nut after adjusting. 4.
