Background
Recycled PET bottle flakes are produced from waste beverage bottles through sorting, crushing, washing, and drying processes. This means that recycled PET bottle flakes can be manufactured wherever there is beverage consumption. As a major market for imported recycled PET bottle flakes, China imports over 10-13 million tons of PET flakes annually.
In 2017, environmental regulations in China became stricter, completely banning the import of waste plastics, including recycled PET in the form of bales or flakes. Under these new rules, recycled plastics must be imported as granules or chips, making it essential to re-pelletize the recycled PET flakes for recyclers. 
Processing Concerns
- Avoid hydrolysis during the re-pelletizing process of PET flakes;
- Large displacement ventilation system required to minimize IV value reduction;
- Prevent or reduce yellowing during the re-pelletizing process;
- Automatic pelletizing method to reduce labor and ensure stable high output.

Features of PET Bottle Flakes Recycling and Pelletizing System from ACERETECH
- Sufficient pre-drying time is essential before re-pelletizing. ACERETECH uses either a venting compactor or a lifting-type drying hopper to remove moisture from the flakes, preventing hydrolysis during processing;
- Combining the modular design of the processing section with the excellent degassing performance of twin-screw extruders and an automatic three-stage root-type vacuum pump system ensures a vacuum pressure of up to -0.1MPa, maximizing the removal of volatiles from PET melts and minimizing IV value reduction;
- Optimized process steps and specialized twin-screw extruder design allow continuous and efficient transformation of PET flakes from solid to liquid state, avoiding yellowing caused by dead zones or local overheating;
- The strands pelletizing unit is a typical PET pelletizing method where extruder strands are manually pulled into a water trough for cooling, then dried using an air knife and cut into granules/chips. This method requires more labor and skilled operation, suitable for capacities below 600kg/h;
- For high-capacity PET pelletizing, the strand pelletizing method is not ideal. An automatic and reliable underwater pelletizing system is necessary to ensure high output and automation performance.
