Here's an official statement from the Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Fire Protection District:

On Wednesday, July 29, 2020, at 10:23 p.m., the Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Fire Protection District was dispatched for a structure fire at 910 Applewood Lane in Algonquin. First responders arrived on the scene at 10:27 p.m. and found a two-story single-family home with heavy fire coming from the rear exterior. Crews immediately began an aggressive attack, and the fire was under control by 10:42 p.m.

Firefighters were informed by neighbors that the house was unoccupied and undergoing renovation. Fortunately, no firefighters or civilians were injured during the incident.

The department received assistance from the Algonquin Police Department, Cary Fire Protection District, Huntley Fire Protection District, Crystal Lake Fire Department, and Fox River Grove Fire Protection District.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, and a full damage assessment has not yet been completed.

It’s always alarming to see such a large fire, especially when it happens so late at night. It’s reassuring to hear that no one was hurt, but it’s also a reminder of how quickly things can escalate. The community must have been shaken up, and the firefighters deserve a lot of credit for their quick response.

Slag Handling

Slag handling refers to the process of managing and disposing of slag, which is a byproduct of various industrial processes, particularly in the metal and mining industries. Slag is a form of waste material that is produced when certain materials, such as iron ore, coke, and limestone, are melted and processed.

Effective slag handling is important for the proper management and disposal of this waste material. It helps to ensure the safety of workers, protect the environment, and maximize the potential value of slag through recycling and reuse.
