This message comes from Steve Redick:

Another piece from Jim Regan’s archive. This tragic fire took place on a freezing cold night, and it claimed the life of Firefighter Kelvin Anderson from Engine 107. His body was found several hours after the fire had reached its peak. I’ve uploaded some photos I took at the scene.

From fsi.illinois.edu:

On December 22, 1989, Firefighter Kelvin Anderson of the Chicago Fire Department, assigned to Engine 107, lost his life while responding to a fire at the Rose of Sharon Church on West Warren Boulevard. The incident occurred during a severe winter storm, and the conditions were extremely dangerous. Anderson was inside the church searching for victims when the roof collapsed around 7 p.m. His fellow firefighters worked tirelessly for over 16 hours before locating his body in the basement under the rubble, just before dawn the next day. An official report confirmed that he died from suffocation and serious burns. A full department funeral was held in his honor, and in 2001, a memorial plaque was dedicated to him at Engine 107’s station. This event remains a somber reminder of the risks firefighters face every day.
