China's nano cable development has made important progress

The National Laboratory of Hefei Microscale Material Science, led by Professor Yu Shuhong of the University of Science and Technology of China, is the "Introduction of Outstanding Foreign Talents" Program in the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the National Outstanding Youth Fund, the National Fund Committee's Outstanding Innovation Group, and the National Natural Science Foundation. With the strong support of the fund and others, following important progress in biomimetic mineralization and biomimetic synthesis of special inorganic nanostructured materials, a series of new developments have recently been made in the low temperature chemical synthesis of coaxial nanocables and nanotubes.

Coaxial nanocables and composite nanotubes are a new type of nanostructured materials, and the exploration of their synthesis methods has been receiving much attention. In the past, synthetic routes often required extremely harsh conditions such as high temperature, laser, and carbothermal reduction. It is a research hotspot in this field to seek economical, mild, and easy-to-use solution synthesis methods.

The researchers in the research department discovered a cross-linking phenomenon of polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) chain under the catalysis of silver ions by solution method, and successfully developed it into a large-scale method for synthesizing soft silver/PVA nano-cables. A new mechanism for the synergistic growth of soft-hard templates is proposed. It is believed that the stabilizing effect of PVA on silver nanowires and the synergistic effect of crosslinked PVA and its linkages lead to the formation of nanocables. The paper was highly praised by the reviewer of the American Chemical Society J.Am.Chem.Soc. "This is an extremely important and excellent research work. The authors describe the cross-linked hydrothermal reaction method of PVA chain under the catalysis of silver ions. The method of synthesizing soft silver/PVA nanocable in one step is very unusual, and the obtained nanostructure of the cable is unusual and has important reference value for the crosslinking of material chemistry and linear polymer. The thickness of the outer layer of the obtained nano cable can be controlled. And the length is very long, which provides a promising synthetic path for the synthesis of nano-cable materials. This research is interesting for readers in different fields and may have potential application value in conductive polymer composites and nanotechnology. The research results were published in the latest internationally renowned chemical journal JmChem.Soc.2005, 127, 2822-2823. The team led by Prof. Yu Shuhong further developed the technology into a universal mass synthesis of various metals/polymers. The nano-cable method, a series of related work is being studied in depth.

The research group also proposed a rapid carbonization of starch and sugar by the hydrothermal carbonization co-reduction method in the presence of precious metal salts, using carbon sources such as inexpensive starch and carbohydrate carbohydrates as the raw materials. A special metal/carbon composite nanostructured material, compared with the traditional high temperature and vacuum methods, the study achieves "carbonization in one day" under mild conditions, and obtains a variety of nanomaterials related to carbon materials and their functions in the future. It has important significance. The work was rated by AdvancedMaterials reviewers: "This is one of the most important and outstanding studies. The authors describe the successful synthesis of a variety of unusual metal/carbon composite nanostructured materials by hydrothermal carbonization co-reduction. Such as nano-cables, hollow nanotubes, carbon nanotubes embellished by nanoparticles. This research really provides a universal method for the synthesis of a variety of metal / carbon composite nanostructured materials, the raw starch used is derived from nature and price The process of synthesis is simple, so the research is very interesting for readers from many fields. "At the same time, the research indicates that the formation process of metal-catalyzed coal and charcoal in nature may be closely related to the results of this experiment. . The results of the study were published in the internationally renowned journal Adv. Mater. 2004, 16, 1636-1640. In addition, using the synthesized ultra-long silver molybdate nanorods/wires as a sacrificial template, the ultra-long Ag2SiO3/SiO2 composite nanotubes were successfully obtained by controlling the hydrolysis process of tetrabutylsilane at room temperature and forming silver silicate in situ. It also shows interesting optical properties. This study has important reference value for the synthesis of other composite nanotubes by sacrificial template method. The paper was also published in Adv. Mater. 2004, 16, 1109-1112. These results show that the mild chemical solution synthesis route provides a new idea for the preparation and rational design of new nanostructured materials. These new special nanostructured materials will surely find important applications in related fields.
