Foil elements were introduced in the 1960s and gradually became the standard dewatering components at high machine speeds where traditional table rolls could no longer be used. A foil element consists of a stationary blade positioned below the wire, with its upper surface forming a small expansion angle with the wire, creating a vacuum effect. By carefully selecting a small angle—often less than one degree—it is possible to generate effective suction even at very high wire speeds. This precise angle plays a crucial role in the efficiency of the dewatering process.
