2024 State of Design & Make Report from Autodesk Finds Growing Confidence in Resilience, Optimism Toward AI
SAN FRANCISCO, April 10, 2024 /PRNewswire/ — A new report from Autodesk reveals that over 5,400 global leaders, futurists, and experts in the design and make industries are more confident in their companies' resilience this year. The 2024 State of Design & Make report highlights a growing trust in AI as a practical tool rather than a distant concept. This shift is driving increased investment in AI to boost productivity and sustainability.
The report, released today by Autodesk (NASDAQ: ADSK), explores insights from professionals across architecture, engineering, construction, design and manufacturing, and media and entertainment—industries that employ nearly 300 million people worldwide and are expected to reach $30 trillion in value by 2027. It aims to help industry leaders navigate the future with data-driven strategies.
Key findings include:
- **Digital transformation has reached a tipping point**: 73% of companies feel more prepared to handle economic or geopolitical changes, up 14 points from 2023.
- **AI trust is rising**: 76% of professionals trust AI in their field, using it to improve efficiency, creativity, and sustainability.
- **AI adoption is growing, but potential is still untapped**: Over half of companies say they are close to or have achieved their AI goals, but there's room for improvement.
- **Upskilling is essential**: Nearly half of professionals say access to skilled talent is a major barrier, making continuous learning a top priority.
- **Sustainability is no longer optional**: 97% of companies have taken steps to improve sustainability, with many seeing it as a key driver of long-term success.
"Technology is becoming the backbone of innovation," said Andrew Anagnost, President and CEO of Autodesk. "As we face complex global challenges, AI and digital tools are helping us build a better future."
The report also shows that 79% of respondents believe AI will enhance creativity in their industry, while 78% think it will bring positive change. Companies are investing heavily in AI, with 72% increasing spending on emerging technologies in the past three years.
In terms of sustainability, 69% of leaders see it as beneficial for short-term business success, a significant increase from last year. Meanwhile, 87% view sustainable practices as a smart long-term decision.
When it comes to skills, the top areas for upskilling are AI integration, digital design, and software development. However, only 38% of companies have the resources to create effective training programs, highlighting a gap between demand and capability.
