Introducing New Pesticides to Study Advanced Technologies and Raise the Level of New Pesticides in China

The development of pesticides is highly technology-driven and requires significant investment. Currently, many foreign countries have established mature and comprehensive systems for pesticide research and development. In contrast, when China first started its pesticide production, there was a noticeable gap in both technological level and industrial strength compared to international standards. The advancement of pesticide creation holds great strategic importance for the sustainable growth of China's agricultural sector. Shenyang Research Institute of Chemical Industry, with support from the International Scientific and Technological Cooperation Program, has partnered with Dow AgroSciences in the United States. This collaboration has enabled the institute to fully leverage the advanced pesticide development systems of its international partner. Through this partnership, they have introduced and mastered cutting-edge technologies such as high-throughput screening, combinatorial chemical synthesis, and structural optimization of lead compounds in the methoxy acrylate family. As a result, multiple new compounds with high biological activity have been discovered. Two of these methoxy acrylate-based compounds have reached the early stages of industrial development, with control effects that are either comparable to or even better than those of similar foreign products. Additionally, the institute has filed 29 invention patents, ensuring full intellectual property rights within China. This project has played a crucial role in advancing China’s pesticide industry by introducing, adapting, and integrating key technologies that are essential for domestic pesticide production. It has accelerated the establishment of a modern pesticide development system in China. Through training programs, on-the-job learning, and technical guidance from foreign experts, the project effectively utilized international expertise to cultivate a group of high-level professionals in new pesticide development. This effort has significantly enhanced the independent innovation capabilities of China’s pesticide industry, laying a strong foundation for future growth and competitiveness.
