Introducing New Pesticides to Study Advanced Technologies and Raise the Level of New Pesticides in China
The development of pesticides is a highly technological and capital-intensive process. Currently, many foreign countries have established comprehensive research and development systems for pesticide production. In contrast, when China initially began its pesticide industry, there was a significant gap in both technological capability and industrial strength compared to international standards. The advancement of pesticide creation plays a crucial role in ensuring the sustainable and healthy growth of agriculture in China.
The Shenyang Research Institute of Chemical Industry, supported by the International Scientific and Technological Cooperation Program, has partnered with Dow AgroSciences from the United States. This collaboration has enabled the institute to leverage the advanced new pesticide development systems of its foreign partner. Through this partnership, they have introduced and mastered cutting-edge technologies such as high-throughput screening, combinatorial chemical synthesis, and structural optimization of lead compounds in the methoxy acrylate class. As a result, several new compounds with high biological activity have been discovered. Among them, two novel methoxy acrylate compounds have entered the early stages of industrial development, showing control effects that are comparable to or even better than similar foreign products.
In addition, the institute has filed 29 invention patents, ensuring full intellectual property rights for China. This project has made a significant contribution to the development of the domestic pesticide industry by introducing, absorbing, and innovating key technologies needed in the sector. It has accelerated the establishment of a modern pesticide creation system in China. Through training programs, joint work, and the involvement of foreign experts, the project effectively utilized international scientific resources. This approach not only helped train a group of high-level professionals in new pesticide development but also enhanced the overall independent innovation capacity of China’s pesticide industry.
The methoxy polyethylene glycols (MPEGs), also referred to as Polyethylene Glycol methyl ethers, are high molecular weight polymers similar in structure and nomenclature to the polyethylene glycols. Because of the potential for repeated cutaneous exposure of humans to MPEG-350 and the known toxicity of lower alkylene glycol ethers such as ethylene glycol monomethyl ether (EGME), studies were conducted to evaluate the potential toxicity and irritation of MPEG-350 following repeated, cutaneous treatment.
