Brazil applies mandatory conformity certification for auto parts

Brazil's "Business Alert" magazine news, recently, Brazil's National Metrology and Standardization Industry Quality Association (INMETRO) put forward a "compulsory certification program" that requires mandatory certification of a range of household goods and other consumer goods. The latest promulgation of the 301/2011 directive on July 21, 2011 proposed the establishment of a new set of certification standards for automotive parts for the automotive replacement market, which involves the use of shock absorbers, electric fuel pumps for Otto cycle engines, and maneuvering. The directive also pointed out that from January 25, 2013, domestic Auto parts produced and imported must comply with the required certification requirements. Auto parts, while retailers and other vendors will ban the sale of uncertified auto parts from July 25, 2014.

It is reported that before the Brazilian National Metrology and Standardization Industrial Quality Association had established mandatory certification requirements for various other auto parts. For example, at the end of last year, the association established new certification standards 445/2010, 482/2010 and 267/2011 for automotive tires and motorcycle and car tires. At the same time, as of November 23, 2011, domestic and imported automobile tires must meet the required certification requirements. Since May 23, 2012, any importer or manufacturer is not allowed to sell uncertified auto parts. Retailers and other vendors will ban the sale of uncertified auto parts from November 23, 2013. The mandatory certification requirements for imported and domestically produced tires will be formally implemented on June 9, 2012. The compulsory certification for tyres sold by tire manufacturers and importers in Brazil will take effect on December 9, 2012.
