In this regard, experts in the plastics processing industry said that advanced plastics processing technology is expected to solve the technical bottlenecks and high cost of LED lamp light distribution materials.

If LED lamps are to be widely promoted, they must be used in the core technology of chip packaging and plastic light distribution materials processing. "Actually, the main technical problems that LED lighting urgently needs to solve are focused on heat dissipation and glare," said Wu Daming, vice president of the School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering at Beijing University of Chemical Technology.

He explained that the LED light source is a cold light source, and the heat generated by it cannot be dissipated through the light, and the heat can only be transferred out and scattered away by heat conduction. The narrow chip area brings great difficulty to heat dissipation. If cooling is not sufficient, this part of the heat will cause the LED chip to age and the phosphor to decay, thus shortening the LED lifetime.

At present, most of the LED lamps used in the market are made of aluminum or aluminum alloy materials, which are not only bulky but also have poor heat dissipation. Internationally, some people have successfully developed high thermal conductive plastics to replace metal materials. The thermal conductive plastics developed by Cool Polymer Co., USA based on ABS, polyamide, liquid crystal polymer, polyether ether ketone, etc., can increase their thermal conductivity up to 100 times. However, as the thermal conductivity increases, the processing performance of the plastic decreases, which limits its further increase in thermal conductivity. The heat pipe and micro-channel heat-dissipation technologies that are being developed in China will, once a breakthrough is achieved, increase the cooling capacity by 3 to 5 orders of magnitude.

The dazzling problem is also a major obstacle for LED to enter the home and office area. According to Wang Meng, when the LED is applied in public places such as outdoor landscapes and hotels, the dazzling problem is not very prominent, but once it enters a home or office, dazzling becomes a big problem. LED is a point light source, it is easy to produce glare, people feel uncomfortable.

"The use of plastic optical light distribution material can eliminate the problem of LED glare." Wu Daming introduced that, at present, optical light distribution materials mainly include doped scattering polymer scattering plates, different refractive index polymer blending materials scattering plates, millimeter optical lenses Array scattering plates, micro-bubble diffuse reflectors, etc. Although these plastic light distribution materials solve the problem of LED light uniformity, they lose 15% to 40% of light energy. How can we not only increase the comfort of the LED light source but also minimize the loss of light? In order to solve the above bottleneck problem, Beijing University of Chemical Technology has used micro-nano fabrication technology to research and develop high-efficiency scattering materials and high-efficiency diffuse reflective materials based on microlens arrays. While improving the comfort of LED lighting, it also significantly reduces the loss of light energy.

LED lamps use a large number of plastic parts, including LED chip packaging components, LED optical lens, light scattering components, efficient heat dissipation components, light reflection and light diffusion plate. The value of these plastic parts accounts for about 10% of the total value of the lamps. According to the prediction of China Lighting Association, the output value of China's LED lighting industry will reach 500 billion yuan in 2015. Based on this, the value of LED plastic parts will exceed 50 billion yuan.

In the face of huge market potential, on the one hand, China's scientific research units are striving to find breakthroughs in technology, and strive to develop technologies with independent intellectual property rights, get rid of the embarrassing situation of being subject to human control, and substitute domestic imports to reduce the production costs of LED lamps; On the one hand, there are also companies that have a sense of smell. They are eyeing this piece of green cake, and are beginning to enter the LED plastic parts industry in large numbers, hoping to gain a share in the energy-saving lighting market.
