Ministry of Industry and Information Technology: Setting limits for fuel consumption of heavy-duty commercial vehicles

On September 24, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology announced that in order to improve the fuel economy of heavy-duty commercial vehicles, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology has organized the National Automotive Technology Standards Committee to complete the drafting of the mandatory national standards for the “Limit of Fuel Consumption for Heavy Commercial Vehicles”. The document was publicly solicited from September 24 to October 24. The industry believes that the main reason for the country to set fuel consumption limits for heavy commercial vehicles is its serious consumption of energy. At the same time, the International Energy Agency believes that advanced fuel-saving technologies for commercial vehicles are an effective way to save energy and reduce consumption.

Energy bottlenecks

Analysis of the industry, prompted the country to set limits for heavy-duty commercial vehicle fuel consumption is mainly due to the huge energy consumption of heavy mountain vehicles. According to public information, China’s commercial vehicles account for only 20% of domestic vehicle ownership, but overall fuel consumption accounts for nearly 50% of all vehicle consumption. The International Energy Agency said on September 19 that the current transportation sector accounts for one-fifth of global energy consumption, and that the future increase in oil consumption is almost entirely driven by this sector.

According to the content of the consultation draft, the standard specifies the limits for fuel consumption of heavy commercial vehicles and is applicable to commercial vehicles burning petrol and diesel with a total design mass greater than 3500 kg, including trucks, tractor-trailers, passenger cars, and dump trucks. And city buses. However, this standard does not apply to van-type special-purpose vehicles, tank-type special-purpose vehicles, special-purpose dump trucks, warehouse gate-type special-purpose vehicles, special work vehicles for lifting and lifting, and special-purpose vehicles for special structures.

The fuel consumption of the model's comprehensive operating conditions shall meet the corresponding fuel consumption limits specified in this standard. According to the documents, depending on the maximum total design mass, the fuel consumption limit for trucks has risen from 13 to 45.5 litres per 100 kilometers; the fuel consumption limit for semi-trailer tractors has risen from 33 to 48 liters per 100 kilometers; passenger cars The fuel consumption limit has risen from 12.5 kilometers to 29.5 litres per hundred kilometers; the fuel consumption limit for dump trucks has risen from 15 to 49 liters per 100 kilometers; the limit for fuel consumption for urban passenger cars has risen from 14 to 49 liters per 100 kilometers. Not equal.

Energy-saving technologies must be parallel

At the same time, the IEA believes that a reliable method of reducing fuel consumption for commercial vehicles is advanced energy-saving technologies. The International Energy Agency said that if governments can actively promote policies to promote advanced technology, new car energy consumption will be halved from the current 20 years later, helping reduce global dependence on oil.

The International Energy Agency said in a report: “The government needs to introduce strong policies to ensure that the potential of energy-saving technologies is fully tapped in the next 10 to 20 years. The current technologies of conventional gasoline and diesel vehicles will enable fuel consumption to reach 20 years in This is reduced by half.” Related policies, including fuel economy standards, fiscal measures and education programs, will play a key role in improving fuel economy.

At the same time, commercial vehicle energy-saving technologies have become a must-win for technology. Recently, Foton Motor launched a heavy-duty machinery project. At the same time, it also signed strategic contracts for clean energy equipment with a number of central energy companies in energy resources, and adopted LNG as a development direction for heavy-duty machinery projects. It plans to save energy, reduce emissions, LNG, and hybrid power in diesel engines. The technical direction goes hand in hand.

In terms of hybrid buses, in addition to Foton Motors, Yutong Bus, Zhongtong Bus, BYD, etc. have all actively deployed demonstration operations. The international hybrid bus has also made new progress. A few days ago, technical experts from the Fraunhofer Institute for Transportation and Infrastructure Systems in Germany developed a bus that runs on a hybrid engine, which has become the longest bus in the world by 31 meters in length. When the battery is depleted, hybrid power comes into play, charging the battery while advancing the car, highlighting the outstanding performance in energy conservation and environmental protection.

However, in the view of the International Energy Agency, by 2030, the auto market will continue to dominate traditional motor vehicles.
