Connecting the factory is now more critical than ever

In recent years, manufacturers have faced unprecedented challenges. Fluctuating demand, sudden production disruptions, and unstable supply chains have pushed many to rethink their strategies and seek greater flexibility. Now, with rapid technological advancements, digitization is becoming more accessible than ever before. This shift is enabling factories to connect processes through smart process management and automation, paving the way for a more responsive and efficient manufacturing environment. By embracing digital transformation, manufacturers can not only address current obstacles but also unlock new value by bridging the gap between the physical and digital worlds. The integration of data-driven insights across all stages of production allows for better decision-making, improved efficiency, and enhanced collaboration.

Discover how digital factories and connected data are reshaping modern manufacturing

Autodesk is dedicated to supporting the full spectrum of smart manufacturing, empowering customers to work in innovative and more productive ways. A key part of this vision involves bringing digitization and connectivity directly to the shop floor, with data at the core. This approach helps manufacturers evolve their operations, creating seamless, end-to-end workflows from design to production.

New investments are driving factory connectivity

To fully realize this vision, Autodesk has made strategic acquisitions that enhance our ability to connect the shop floor. One such move was the acquisition of Prodsmart, a company specializing in software that optimizes manufacturing through automation and digitization from the ground up. Their real-time data management system provides production managers with valuable insights, from order placement to final delivery. We’ve also acquired the IP assets of CIMCO, known for its advanced machine communication software and G-Code visualization tools. What makes CIMCO particularly exciting is their ongoing development of technology that automates machine strategy definition and offers a browser-based interface. This enables machinists to integrate more seamlessly into the broader product development lifecycle. These acquisitions complement our earlier investment in Upchain, which brought cloud-native PLM capabilities to our platform. By connecting project data across the entire design-to-make ecosystem, Upchain enhances efficiency, resilience, and collaboration. Together, these new Autodesk tools are already making a difference in Fusion 360, helping to streamline factory workflows and drive operational and financial improvements. We’re committed to continuing this momentum, as we understand the critical role of a connected factory in shaping the future of manufacturing.
