Autodesk signs EU AI Pact to support responsible AI development

Autodesk has committed to implementing the principles of the upcoming EU AI Act ahead of its official enforcement. This proactive approach aligns with the company's long-standing dedication to responsible AI development and innovation. As one of the first signatories of the EU AI Pact, Autodesk joins over a hundred companies in pledging support for trustworthy AI across Europe and beyond. At a ceremony in Brussels on September 25, Clémence Arto, director of EMEA Government Affairs and Public Policy at Autodesk, and Anthony Ruto, senior director of Research Engineering, had the opportunity to engage with other signatories and EU officials. The event highlighted the importance of shaping AI in a way that benefits society while ensuring safety and transparency. The AI Pact is an initiative led by the European Commission, encouraging companies to voluntarily commit to key actions that promote safe and ethical AI development before the AI Act comes into effect. The AI Act, which was enacted in August 2024, will be implemented in phases over the next three years. It sets clear requirements and obligations for AI developers and deployers, aiming to foster trust in AI systems globally. By signing the AI Pact, Autodesk has pledged to: - Develop an AI governance strategy to support the responsible adoption of AI within the organization and prepare for future compliance with the AI Act. - Identify and map AI systems that may be classified as high-risk under the AI Act. - Promote AI awareness and literacy internally, ensuring ethical and responsible AI development. For over a decade, Autodesk has been investing in artificial intelligence to enhance creativity, automate repetitive tasks, and provide data-driven insights to support better decision-making. Throughout this journey, the company has focused on embedding integrity and trust into its AI solutions. Signing the AI Pact marks another important milestone in this ongoing commitment. In addition to the AI Pact, Autodesk is actively involved in various initiatives aimed at promoting trusted AI across industries. These include participation in the U.S. AI Safety Institute Consortium (AISIC), led by NIST, and the Content Authenticity Initiative (CAI). “AI is set to transform how we interact with technology,” said Mike Haley, senior vice president of Research at Autodesk. “We commend the EU for taking a leadership role in establishing regulations that guide AI toward a more positive societal impact. At Autodesk, we are committed to using AI’s potential to drive meaningful change and innovation.” Looking ahead, Autodesk remains dedicated to sharing progress, learning from others, and leading through example in the development of trusted AI. The company continues to explore new ways to design, create, and innovate with the power of artificial intelligence. View the full list of signatories.
