Autodesk Details Subscription Transition for New Software Licenses

(Nasdaq: ADSK) announced a major shift in its software distribution strategy, effective February 1, 2016. From that date onward, new commercial licenses for most standalone desktop software products will only be available through the Desktop Subscription model. This move marks another step in Autodesk’s ongoing transition to a subscription-based business model, designed to provide customers with greater flexibility, easier access to new tools, and more cost-effective options. The company plans to continuously enhance this offering, integrating it more closely with cloud services and reducing compatibility issues between files. Customers who purchased perpetual licenses before February 1, 2016, will still be able to use those licenses. Those under Maintenance Subscription will continue to receive benefits as long as their subscription remains active. Additionally, Cloud Services Subscriptions will remain available.
