East Hazel Crest Fire Department news
Just got some exciting updates from the East Hazel Crest FD Facebook page! They recently received and started using a brand-new set of extrication tools from AMKUS Rescue Systems. This is a huge step forward as they’re replacing their current tools that are over three decades old! Unlike the previous hydraulic-powered ones, these new tools run on DEWALT batteries. That switch brings so many advantages—quicker tool deployment, faster operation, better maneuverability, fewer chances of something going wrong, and reduced maintenance needs. Along with these new extrication tools, they’ve also added a fresh set of DEWALT power tools to their arsenal. And there’s more good news—they managed to get a third combi tool from AMKUS Rescue Systems, which will soon be placed on their frontline engine.
Something important to note is that vehicle construction and safety have come a long way in the last 30 years. Modern vehicles are now built with ultra-high-strength metals. While this improves survival rates in accidents, it also makes it harder for outdated equipment to handle the job. Their old tools might have struggled to cut through these modern materials, potentially delaying the rescue of someone trapped in a vehicle.
I want to extend my gratitude to Mayor Tom Brown and the Village of East Hazel Crest Board of Trustees for greenlighting the purchase of these new tools. Also, a big thanks goes out to Tom from Dinges Fire Company for helping with the acquisition, training, delivery, and servicing of these tools.
