Buffalo Grove house fire 2-3-11
At dusk on Thursday, the Buffalo Grove Fire Department received a call about smoke coming from a residence at 21 Chestnut Terrace. When crews arrived, thick smoke had already engulfed the front of the home, prompting the alarm to be upgraded to a Code 4 for an active house fire. Firefighters discovered flames in a second-floor bedroom that had spread into the attic. They quickly made a direct attack to contain the fire. However, access to the rear of the house was severely limited due to deep snow drifts, some reaching up to five feet, making it nearly impossible to reach from the back. Fortunately, no one was injured, and family members had reported the fire early on.
Buffalo Grove firefighters were assisted by units from Arlington Heights, Countryside, Lincolnshire-Riverwoods, and Deerfield. Earlier in the day, Buffalo Grove crews had been clearing fire hydrants throughout the village, which likely helped in their response efforts.
