I just heard some devastating news about Captain Jake Ringering from the Godfrey Fire Department. It's truly heartbreaking. Jake, 37, tragically lost his life on Tuesday while responding to a house fire on Culp Lane. He was struck by a collapsing brick wall while bravely battling the flames. One of his fellow firefighters, Luke Warner, was also seriously hurt and had to undergo surgery.
The community is coming together to support Jake's family during this unimaginable time. Visitation will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alton on Monday from 2 to 8 PM, with a special walk-through by members of the Godfrey Fire Protection District scheduled for 6 PM. The funeral service is set for Tuesday morning at the same church.
There are several fundraising events planned to help Jake's loved ones. Starting this Friday, there will be a gathering from 3 to 6 PM at the Godfrey McDonald’s. On Monday, Bakers & Hale will host an event starting at 11 AM. And on Wednesday, Roma’s Pizza in Bethalto will be collecting donations from 10 AM until 10 PM. People can also contribute at various police departments in the area.

It's really touching to see how everyone is rallying around these families. I know Jake was deeply respected by so many people in the community. My thoughts are with all those affected by this tragedy. Please keep them in your prayers.
