House fire in Mt Prospect 3-18-13
At around 10:30 this morning, I was at 21 South Hi Lusi Avenue when Tower 13 arrived on the scene. The smoke was heavy, prompting an upgrade to a Code 4 situation (with no Engine 13 dispatched). The fire was severe on the second floor of this 1.5-story Cape Cod-style house. As soon as I got there, crews had to evacuate because part of the second floor collapsed. For a short time, firefighters took a defensive approach, but they managed to control the blaze and then went inside. Unfortunately, we couldn't access the rear due to high fences surrounding most of the properties, but there's a noticeable bump-out addition on the back of the second floor. Units responding to the Code 4 alert included AHTS Tower 1, DESP Engine with Battalion Chief, EGRT Engine 11, ROLM Engine, and GLVW Engine Company. Great work by everyone involved!
