Autodesk & ZWCAD Software Co. Resolve Disputes Relating to Software Misappropriation
Public Company Information:
NASDAQ: ADSK
SAN RAFAEL, Calif.—(BUSINESS WIRE)—Autodesk, Inc. (NASDAQ: ADSK), a global leader in design and engineering software solutions, and ZWCAD Software Co., Ltd., along with its affiliated entities including ZWCAD Design Co., Ltd., HK ZWCAD Software Ltd., and GLOBAL FORCE DIRECT, LLC. (trading under the name ZWCADUSA), collectively referred to as "ZWSoft," have reached an agreement to settle ongoing legal disputes. These lawsuits were originally filed in The Hague in the Netherlands and the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California.
Autodesk's AutoCAD stands as the company's premier product and one of the most widely-used design software tools globally. It plays a pivotal role in architectural, engineering, and construction projects worldwide.
During the course of the litigation, Autodesk uncovered substantial evidence suggesting that ZWSoft had illicitly utilized AutoCAD's intellectual property in creating its ZWCAD+ product line. Based on this evidence, Autodesk initiated legal action against ZWSoft. On February 19, 2014, Autodesk filed a lawsuit in The Hague, Netherlands (Case No. C/09/460412 / KG ZA 14-178), followed by another filing on March 26, 2014, in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California (Case No. 14-cv-1409-EJD). In these complaints, Autodesk claimed that the ZWCAD+ software had been developed using AutoCAD's proprietary source code without proper authorization.
Initially, ZWSoft contested these claims. However, further investigation revealed that a former employee had indeed misused AutoCAD's intellectual property while working on ZWCAD+. This revelation prompted ZWSoft's leadership, led by its CEO Truman Du, to publicly admit the mistake and commit to ceasing all sales, licensing, and distribution of ZWCAD+ across all markets immediately. Both parties have now signed a confidential settlement agreement, resolving their disputes amicably.
Autodesk remains steadfast in protecting its intellectual property and ensuring fair competition within the industry. This resolution marks an important step toward safeguarding innovation and maintaining trust among its customers and partners.
