The Oak Park Fire Department, along with River Forest Engine 222, responded to a house fire around 12:30 PM yesterday at 1048 N. Elmwood. As they approached, dispatch reported that officers on the scene had seen smoke coming from the second-floor rear and that an elderly resident in a wheelchair was still inside on the first floor.

First responders quickly got the woman out and began advancing a hose line toward the second floor. The situation was tense, but the team worked efficiently under pressure.

Once inside, crews encountered heavy smoke and a fire in a second-floor bedroom. The flames were quickly brought under control, and the structure was ventilated to prevent further spread. All OPFD units were on scene, with River Forest Engine 222 standing by as RIT (Rapid Intervention Team).
